Children laughing in the classroom with their teacher

You can help a child like Kanika step out of the shadows.

When 12-year-old Kanika was born with a learning disability, her parents didn’t know what to do. Disability was poorly understood in her village, and often viewed as a form of divine punishment.

As she grew, her parents couldn’t understand why she struggled to walk, talk, feed, or wash herself. And with no support from their community, they simply hid her indoors – away from the stares and whispers of their neighbours.

Unable to go to school, excluded from community events, and with no friends to play with, Kanika was at risk of falling further behind. But in 2017, she and her family began receiving support from a local program funded by compassionate people like you.

“Kanika can now express her needs like any other child. She bathes and dresses herself. She attends school. She can read and write.”

Today, Kanika’s life has transformed. As her mum proudly shares:

“Kanika can now express her needs like any other child. She bathes and dresses herself. She attends school. She can read and write. She’s even become more involved in our daily activities, like cooking rice and washing the dishes.”

Enhancing the life of people with intellectual disabilities

Run by our partners in Cambodia, our ‘Enhancing the Life of People with Intellectual Disabilities’ program is dedicated to helping people with disabilities find the support, respect, and opportunities they deserve.

Through special education, family support, and healthcare, the program empowers children like Kanika to overcome barriers and reach their full potential. It also works to break the stigma of disability in rural Cambodian communities, fostering a culture of understanding, respect, and acceptance.

Your generous gift today helps fund this life-changing program to enable more children like Kanika live life to the fullest.
