Finding freedom online

Originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 26-year-old Nadine fled her homeland seeking safety and stability. She now lives in Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi, where over 47,000 refugees and asylum seekers are crowded together in a space built for just 1,000. Life in the camp is difficult, with limited movement, scarce employment opportunities, and a heavy reliance on food rations.

Amid these challenges, Nadine discovered new hope through the Pathfinder Digital Inclusion Program (DIP), supported by your generosity and implemented by our project partner JRS Malawi.

“When I joined the program in 2021, I was struggling to survive and support my family,” Nadine recalls. “DIP opened my eyes to new opportunities by teaching me valuable skills on how to become a freelancer. Today, I am proud to say that I am no longer struggling to make ends meet.”

Before joining the program, Nadine’s life was defined by uncertainty. Without income or stable work, she often felt powerless to help her family of seven. Through the DIP, she learned digital and freelancing skills that enabled her to build an online career.

“The Digital Inclusion Program didn’t just teach me how to work online—it gave me hope, confidence, and the tools to succeed.”

Now, Nadine is a successful remote freelancer, “My life has truly transformed because I now have the ability to work online and support my family whenever they need me,” she says. “I am my own boss and can work from any location.”

Nadine’s success has inspired others in the camp. “Before this program, many people would just walk around without much to do,” she explains. “Now, they understand there are opportunities available that can help them avoid being jobless.”

Looking ahead, Nadine dreams of opening her own digital agency to help others find online work. “There are still many people out there who are waiting for this kind of support. The Digital Inclusion Program didn’t just teach me how to work online—it gave me hope, confidence, and the tools to succeed.”
