Cambodia
Xavier Jesuit School (Sisophon)
Scholarships for 55 disadvantaged students from the poorest villages to attend the Jesuit primary and secondary school (K-12) in northern Cambodia. Scholarship students live-in and are also day scholars.
Thailand
Urban Education Project (Bangkok based)
Develops educational and entrepreneurial opportunities for urban refugees by providing skills training and opportunities for higher education and internship. Courses available include English, Thai, digital skills and vocational training like sewing, beauty salon, dress making etc. Strengthens advocacy on refugee education, protection, and social integration through promoting understanding and awareness on refugee issues among the Thai communities.
Cambodia
Light of Mercy (Phnom Penh)
Provides a supportive home and centre for up to 25 children / young adults living with a disability, who would otherwise receive no education at all. Children / young adults attend local schools where they receive special education, and their individual talents are nurtured through extra classes such as music, dancing and computer skills. Children grow the confidence they need to become independent young adults, working towards gaining employment.
Vietnam
Construction High Tech water filter for coastal residents
Dangerous industrial waste has caused most of the surface water sources in coastal areas of Vietnam to be highly contaminated. This forces families who are already struggling with poverty to purchase bottled water or risk becoming sick with life-threatening illnesses. Project installs High-Tech water filter stations across coastal districts benefiting 20,000 people. The water stations use ‘Reverse Osmosis Ultraviolet’ to sterilise contaminated water, giving communities access to clean, safe water and a better quality of life.
Cambodia
Livelihood Enhancement Project
Offers vocational training, improvements to housing, health care access and awareness raising in relation to the rights of people living with an intellectual disability, across seven districts in Cambodia.
Previous Award Winner
Timor-Leste in 2020 and 2021
In 2020 Pilgrims 100 members chose to support the nutrition programme, NOSSEF school and the health clinic in Railaco and in 2021 the water project. This year a pilot study of a food security project is underway – to establish reliable access to enough affordable nutritious food. This pilot study could lead to a food security project seeking support from Pilgrims 100 members in future years.
