As the war in Ukraine continues, a humanitarian crisis is unfolding. Already, over five million refugees have fled Ukraine in search of safety. Please donate today to help our local Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) partners on the frontlines provide vital food, shelter and services to our sisters and brothers in desperate need.

“The first need is to welcome these people.” – Marius Talos SJ, Jesuit Refugee Service Director, Romania.

The human cost of the war in Ukraine is escalating.

Over five million people have already fled Ukraine in search of safety in neighbouring countries. Most are women, children, the elderly, and people living with disability or serious illness. The majority arrive at the borders on foot, with only the possession they can carry.

Please, help support people whose lives have been torn apart by the conflict in Ukraine. Click here to donate now.

Your compassionate donation will help coordinate an emergency response including emergency shelter, welcome packages, food, health assistance, translation and accompaniment for people who have been left with almost nothing.

Since the beginning of the war, JRS Europe has been mobilising support from JRS offices within Ukraine itself, and in neighbouring countries.

Each office is working around the clock to provide immediate help and establish channels to provide long-term support for displaced people.

In Lviv, Ukraine:

JRS Ukraine has converted a Jesuit house into a transit home that welcomes around fifty displaced people per day. Warm beds, food and access to clothing and medicine are provided so people can rest for a few days before continuing their journey.

Romania: Romania shares a 650km border with Ukraine and hundreds of thousands of our sisters and brothers have crossed into the country seeking safety.

“The first need is to welcome these people, who have spent more than two days before being able to cross the border, says Director of JRS Romania, Marius Talos SJ. “Then you have to meet the needs of food and accommodation.”

Most people arriving at the border are exhausted and many have experienced unimaginable trauma.

With the support of people like you, JRS is also able to provide vital psychological assistance to people in need, along with transportation for those who wish to continue their journey and legal advice for those seeking asylum in Romania.

Poland & Hungary: Like JRS Romania, JRS Poland and JRS Hungary are working 24/7 to provide immediate help for vulnerable people and developing structured plans for long-term assistance including safe shelter, transport, heath care support and education for children.

Please donate today to help fund these life-sustaining efforts.
