After a military coup in February 2021, communities across Myanmar endured violence and displacement. Then in March 2025, a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake rocked the country – flattening towns, killing over 3,000 people, and leaving thousands more injured or missing.
Humanitarian access, which was already restricted in many areas as a result of the conflict, deteriorated even further due to damaged infrastructure. Over 19.9 million people, many of them children, were immediately in desperate need of emergency assistance.

Our eyes and ears on the ground
With our Jesuit partners living in communities most affected, we have been delivering aid directly to where the need is greatest, whether people have been displaced by conflict or the earthquake.
Our partners are our eyes and ears in communities, helping us identify urgent needs and directing your support to the areas of greatest impact. And by working through the existing church network, they help to distribute critical resources to people that few others can reach.
We are working with our partners to provide crucial food, clean water, shelter, medical care, education support and help with rebuilding homes and lives.

A message from Myanmar’s war zone
We received this email from a Jesuit priest whose community was devastated by the conflict:
“We were air-bombed (I was 100 feet away from the bombing spot – Deo Gratias…)
Four people died and seven others were injured seriously. I met the bereaved families and the victims.) More than 20 houses were destroyed. On that same night, all the villagers of a nearby district and its surrounding villages fled and now take refuge in the nearby mountains and forests.
If we continue to live out here, we will have problems with food shortages and, of course, healthy water. Some are already falling ill due to the poor weather conditions. Medicine is a challenge for us. . . There are no doctors in the village. Only two nurses are there.”
Whether helping people affected by war, or by the earthquake, we stand with our brothers and sisters in Myanmar as they rebuild their lives.
